HOW TO BUILD healthy habits
MICHELLE BRIDGES REVEALS HER MOTIVATION HACKS
Many of us start the year with good intentions, but as work, school runs and life in general begin to take over, it’s easy to see why it can be challenging to stay focused. But that’s also why February is the perfect time to start building healthy habits. Michelle Bridges shares some simple tips that can help you on your way!
GET ORGANISED!
Planning is critical to making healthy habits stick! Being organised and keeping a diary of your exercise, shopping, cooking and prepping is the number one step towards success.
Your first task is to reassess where your health is now and where you want to be.
INCENTIVISE YOUR WORKOUTS
Setting yourself mini goals and rewards is a great way to track your success and to congratulate yourself for staying fit and healthy. Try setting up a money jar and throw in a gold coin or two every time you stick to your workout plan. At the end of the month or season, you can use that money to spoil yourself with a makeover or new workout gear.
STAY CONSISTENT
Keep going, keep pushing, and don’t give up! The more you do things, the more likely they will become habits. If you exercise, write in your journal and keep up your positive thinking – these little tasks will become habits.
With consistency, you’ll be able to focus on the task at hand and repeat it every single day. Showing up is the hardest part. After that, you just have to get it done!
BUDDY UP
Nothing keeps you more motivated than a friend who shares your health and fitness goals. A neighbour, relative, friend, partner or colleague can offer support during exercise, and maybe even a little friendly competition.
Fitness buddies can join you for everything from intense training sessions to friendly tennis matches, to regular walks. Why not invite them into the kitchen every now and then to prepare and share a healthy meal? Before you know it, you’ll be reaching all your health and fitness goals!
