CLEAN-UP ANGELS

-

When Tanya Hooper’s shop, the Grantham Community Store, was hammered by the flooding last week, the community quickly rallied to help with the mammoth clean-up.

“People just started turning up to help, they were there pretty much as soon as we walked through the door. One lady has been there every day – she’s been there nearly as much as I have.”

Customers, staff members and even strangers have helped Tanya clear away mountains of rubbish and Gerni the floors.

“A local guy who has a professional cleaning company came and he’s done a professional clean on the floors.

“He just walked in one day and said

I can do this. I’ll come back and do it when you’re ready.

It’s been amazing.”

Tanya said the local food pantry had been supplying meals to those in need and others have been dropping off home-baked biscuits, cakes and muffins.

“They’ve been supplying us lunch every day, which is awesome. They’ve been feeding everyone who’s working in the streets.’’
