A BOMBSHELL NEW MEMOIR HAS DIVIDED TV’S MOST FAMOUS CAST
Matthew Perry’s upcoming million-dollar memoir has caused “irreparable damage” to his rocky relationships with his five Friends castmates.
New Idea has exclusively learnt that the 52-year-old troubled actor is refusing to let his old pals see a draft of his confessional, Friends,
Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, due for release in November – and all hell has broken loose among the rest of the crew.
Jennifer Aniston, 53, and her bestie, Courteney Cox, 57, are “preparing for the worst”, according to insiders, as Matthew locks himself away putting the finishing touches on his memoir.
“Jen and Courteney are freaking out,” says a pal. “Jen’s concerned he’s going to turn her into a diet-obsessed neurotic because, well, she kind of was one back then, while Courteney fears he’ll spill about how he tried to steal her from then-husband, David [Arquette].”
Likewise, Lisa Kudrow, 58, David Schwimmer, 55, and Matt Leblanc, 54, are also “extremely worried” over Matthew’s memoir, after last year’s muchhyped HBO reunion special was marred by his slurred, shambolic appearance – which he explained was the result of recent dental work.
“Matthew’s got nothing to lose and everyone knows it,” says an insider. “This is his chance at redemption, so he’s not holding back.”
The ups and downs of the famous sitcom have been well documented over the years and Matthew was right there for all the behind-thescenes drama, including Jen’s divorce from Brad.
There were also all kinds of parties when they had big A-list guests, including Julia Roberts. Plus, all of this was happening while he was going through his drug issues, so there’s a lot to spill. Matthew’s take on it has the potential to blow any lingering controversies wide open.
“Despite his issues, Matthew has always been brilliant, and because he’s a writer he observes people in ways that are often uncomfortably perceptive. It’s why Jen never allowed herself to really get close to him after he jokingly called her a ‘man-eater’ when she had her [alleged] on-set fling with [Matt] Leblanc,” says one insider. “Lisa was also teased on set for having a thing for Matt and she worries he’ll dredge that up.”
Meanwhile, David is hoping that Matthew doesn’t bring up their time as each other’s “wingman”, with sources adding: “In the early days, they got up to plenty of mischief together.”
So concerned are Jen, Courteney, Lisa, Matt and David that they’ve begged to see a copy of the manuscript before it goes to press, but Matthew’s not budging.
“It’s not finished yet and he’s got to do what his publishers want,” explains the source. “He knows they’re all upset and doesn’t want anyone to get hurt, but he wants to write honestly. This is a deeply personal and cathartic project for Matthew.”
