WHAT IS JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS?
The virus is spread by infected mosquitoes. It can infect humans and animals, but cannot be passed from person to person. There is no specific treatment for Japanese encephalitis, but there is a vaccine available to protect against the virus. A person with a severe case of Japanese encephalitis may present with inflammation of the brain, with a sudden onset of vomiting, high fever and chills, severe headache, sensitivity to light, and neck stiffness.
