New Idea

NORTH STRADBROKE ISLAND, QLD

-

Known as Minjerribah to its traditional owners, the Quandamooka people, and affectionately known as Straddie, Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) is the closest island from Brisbane for a quick island getaway, less than an hour and a half away from the city. It’s great for day trips and weekends, with plenty of beach driving, freshwater lakes, sunshine and wildlife to spot around the island. Straddie has a very laid-back vibe, getting you into the holiday spirit from the minute you step foot on the island. The sunrises and sunsets are bright and beautiful, the beaches are clear and perfect for swimming and surfing, and there are plenty of cute little cafes and restaurants to keep you trying something new around the island for every meal. There are three little towns around the island, with Point Lookout claiming to be one of the best land-based whale-watching sites in the world. No matter where you decide to base yourself, you’re never far from a beach or restaurant.
