WHY OILS ARE THE NEW BEAUTY MUSTHAVE OVER BALMS AND GLOSSES

-

When it comes to keeping our pout hydrated, we’re pretty spoilt for choice. Between balms, ointments, glosses and lipsticks, there’s endless variety depending on what the occasion calls for. What you might not be familiar with, is an oil. While the word can often incite fear in the beauty community, oils have long been lauded for providing a boost of hydration and an enviable glow to the face, body – and now, lips.

WHY SHOULD WE BE OILING UP?

According to Ashleigh, a lip oil is a cross between a nourishing lip balm and a high-shine lip gloss.

“It’s really the best of both worlds – while it hydrates and plumps your lips, it also gives you a long-lasting, super-glossy pout,” she explains.

If you’re one of those people who loves the look of a gloss but hates the sticky feeling, then an oil should be at the top of your wish list. It gives all the moisturising benefits of a balm while still bringing a beautiful sheen. “You can use it by itself for a mirror-like finish, or apply your favourite lipstick

on top for a coloured, glossy dreamscape,” says Ashleigh. “If you’re not keen on the oil/lipstick combo, you can opt for a tinted lip oil which gives you the two-for-one deal on hydration and colour.”

BETTER THAN A BALM?

Choose an oil if you want deeper nourishment, advises Ashleigh. “Lip balms often have a wax base that keeps hydration from leaving the top layer of your lips – this is why they feel hydrating and soothing after a balm application,” she explains.

“While this is great, what is greater is a lip oil being absorbed deeper into the lips. Lip oils often have a long, nourishing and rich ingredient list that help to actually draw in moisture to the deeper layers of skin, as opposed to just the top layer.”

So, if you’re looking for a winter go-to or often suffer from dry lips, an oil could be your new Holy Grail product.
