ATHE COMEDIAN HAS A FRESH TAKE ON AN OLD FAVOURITE
ustralians love a good game show, so it was with great sadness that we bid farewell to Family Feud in 2020. But it turns out that Peter Helliar wasn’t ready to say goodbye to it either, so the comedian has brought it back in a brand-new podcast format.
How will the podcast differ from the old TV version?
We’ve got comedians playing against each other on behalf of listeners and let’s just say there’s not big money on offer! It’s the honour of winning a stupid prize like bear repellent or a sleeping bag. It’s really quite loose and about having fun.
Who will be joining you on it?
Tom Gleeson, Ross Noble, Luke Mcgregor, Meshel Laurie, Zoë Coombs Marr and Rhys Nicholson. I called up a lot of mates and absolutely every single person came in and had a ball. They all got way more competitive than I’d anticipated, so it was fun to be like the ringmaster of the circus.
Any tricks for those playing along at home?
You’ve gotta get very Zen, very Zen. Get your mind in that lovely little middle space, and just say the first thing that comes to your mind.
What’s your all-time favourite game show?
I do love a quiz. So I loved Sale of the Century growing up. And one my first big moments was seeing myself on the ‘Famous Faces’ [board] – my face was on it.
Will there be another season of How to Stay Married?
No, we’re not going for a fourth season. It’s sad, but also, we were pretty happy with how we wrapped up the storyline last season. It was a great show.
