IS THE TODAY TONIGHT STAR PLANNING A COMEBACK?
During the ’90s, Naomi Robson ruled the airwaves as the popular host of Today Tonight. Her decade-long tenure saw the nightly current affairs program dominate its timeslot.
Exiting the show in 2006, Naomi seemed to drop out of the spotlight, prompting many to wonder what she’s been up to in the ensuing years.
Naomi explained that her decision to retreat was driven by a need to try new challenges, but that she’d always intended on staying in front of the camera.
Indeed, right after she departed Today Tonight, Naomi put together a pilot talk show that she planned to stream via her website.
“It was a huge undertaking. It was a bit ahead of its time,” she said in a past interview.
Simultaneously, Naomi says she was inundated with requests from people in the corporate world seeking her advice on how to speak to the media. Seizing the opportunity, Naomi created her own media-training business, Managing Your Message.
“After about 14 months, looking at the time and energy that was going into the online show and then the growing demand for the corporate training, it was clear that the latter was a better return on investment for me in time and energy,” Naomi explained.
Nowadays, Naomi’s business continues to flourish.
Based in Melbourne, she has a much lower public profile – although she went viral on social media last year, thanks to a Tiktok video of her most hilarious Today Tonight outtakes!
The presenter continues to do the odd public speaking engagement and was also photographed attending the Melbourne Grand Prix earlier this year with a male friend.
So, has the former queen of current affairs written off ever making a return to prime time?
“I have been offered things over the years but nothing I was really interested in doing,” she told The Daily Telegraph in 2018. “That’s not to say that something won’t come up in the future and
I’d certainly be open to it.”
