Not even a mystery health scare was going to stop Rose Porteous from celebrating another trip around the sun in five-star style!
To mark her recent 74th birthday, the flamboyant socialite jetted to Dubai for a fabulous holiday at the Park Hyatt with a small contingent of her nearest and dearest.
Overlooking Dubai Creek Marina, the luxurious hotel bills itself as a “tranquil oasis”. With suites costing more than $2500 a night, the hotel also boasts numerous top restaurants including an outpost of London celebrity hotspot, Cinnamon Bazaar.
Rose, who calls the hotel her “home away from home”, took to social media to thank her loved ones, including brother Sal Lacson, for spoiling her on her big day.
When it comes to getting older, Rose very much believes that age “is just a number”.
“So long as you look after your body, and your skin, you’re laughing!” she says.
The doting grandmother might be spending even more time in the Middle East’s playground for the rich and famous, after listing her mansion in the Perth suburb of Nedlands for $5.75 million in October. Rose and fourth husband, realtor William Porteous, who was a close friend of her third husband Lang Hancock, paid $4.4 million for the fivebedroom home in 2019. The purchase came after they demolished Prix d’amour in 2006, the Gone with the Wind-style mansion Lang built Rose on the banks of the Swan River.
A former hairdresser and flight attendant, Rose came to public attention after falling in love with mining magnate and recent widow Lang in 1983 when she was working at his home as a maid. She was 39 years his junior.
The couple married in 1985, much to the chagrin of his daughter Gina Rinehart, who took her stepmother to court to fight over her dad’s estate when he died in 1992.
