Easy ways to UPDATE YOUR HO

TIME TO GIVE YOUR SPACE A STYLISH MAKEOVER

-

There’s no better time than the beginning of a new year to freshen up your space. But, rather than spending loads of time, money, and effort renovating your entire home, there are a few clever ways you can redecorate your space to give it the stylish spruce-up it needs. Interior stylist and Carpet Court ambassador, Heather Nette King, chats us through the interior trends to look out for this year and how to easily incorporate them into your home.

1

BRUTALISM

“Made popular in the 1950s, brutalist design is set to re-emerge this year with a luxury twist. With all the hallmarks of the classic mid-century architectural and design movement, the latest version will be less stark and more luxurious; using raw concrete in new and inventive ways and introducing contrasting materials, such as beautiful, textured fabrics and luxurious metallics, to add softness and elegance. To nail this look at home, try pairing concrete monolithic design elements with the softness of carpet, like Carpet Court’s Basenji synthetic, twist-pile carpet in Cattle Grey.”

2

LIGHTING

“Before you relegate lamps and light fixtures as an afterthought, in 2023 they’re coming to the forefront of interior design. People are becoming more adventurous with their lighting selections; really taking advantage of them as a statement design element in a room. Due to their functionality and decorative quality, they can set the mood in more ways than one. In the same way an expensive couch can centre a room, the beautiful glow from a statuesque lamp can elevate and provide ambience to a space.”

3

LOCAL BOHO

“Australians have always had a fondness for the boho look and it’s easy to see why; with its focus on colour and nostalgia, and a no-rule approach to styling. It’s a natural fit for our relaxed lifestyle and provides the perfect framework to create homes with heart. An easy way to channel a modern-boho vibe in your own interior is starting with the flooring and window furnishings. Look for flooring and window treatments in neutral tones that convey a relaxed, organic feel. To complete the look, finish with furniture, fabrics and artwork in muted greens, soft coral and plenty of pattern.”

4 VINTAGE FURNITURE

“While purchasing second-hand furniture is all the buzz right now, in 2023, it will be the norm. The supply chain issues and long lead times for bespoke furniture pieces has encouraged more vintage sourcing and upcycling with homeowners around the world. In turn, this has encouraged more vintage hunting among designers and budding vintage shoppers, all because it’s readily available. With the rise and success of online marketplaces like 1stdibs, Chairish and Incollect over the past few years, I think we will continue to lean into vintage upcycling as a big focus into the new year.”

5 CURVES

“Curves, arches and rounded shapes have been making their way into interiors for a while now, and will continue to do so. Expect to see this trend reiterated in the new year through architectural details, fixtures, fittings, furniture and accessories, like crescent sofas, oblong mirrors and circular rugs. Circular rugs are an easy way to soften a space and add further interest through shape.”
