The garage in which you house and work on your classic vehicle is a pretty important space, but does it feel like a special, inviting place? It’s almost an unspoken Kiwi tradition to tinker away in cold, dark garages and sheds, relentlessly working to finish that project car ‘some day’. There are, however, ways to improve the usability of your workspace, and one of the first places to look is at lighting.

We all know how frustrating and unpleasant it can be working in poorly lit conditions, but the solution needn’t be electrical — skylights are an extremely feasible lighting solution, with huge lighting benefits at no cost to your energy consumption. And where skylights are concerned, PSP’S Suntuf Industrial/fr is hard to go past as a material of choice.

Suntuf Industrial/fr allows 85 per cent light through, while eliminating glare and providing a brighter light — imagine a frosted light bulb compared to a traditional transparent bulb — and cutting out 99.9 per cent of harmful UV rays.

The polycarbonate construction of Suntuf Industrial/ fr means that it is shatterproof — it’s rated at around 250 times stronger than glass — in addition to being lightweight and flexible. This is reflected in the warranty, which covers light transmission for 25 years, and hail and breakage for 15 years — this meets New Zealand durability standards contained in the Ministry of Business’s Building Code, which is especially important if resource consent will be required. Additionally, the product has the highest fire rating (Group 1S) within BRANZ.

The results speak for themselves, though — take a look at this workshop that has been equipped with PSP Suntuf Industrial/ fr, and the quality of light that is achievable in a modest garage environment. It’s not just for the rich and famous!
