New Zealand Classic Car

Recent information

-

In your Issue No. 328, and on page 36, your footnote and letter from a reader seeking recent information about the … [pictured V12 Super Squalo] Ferrari. While I can’t help with any current info I do have a very detailed five-page article, with several colour photos, in a June 1976 copy of Thoroughbred and Classic Cars [T&CC] magazine. This article says that the car was bought by Logan Fow of Hamilton in Dec. 1967 and finishes by quoting Logan as at present “considering the reconversion of [the car] back to single seater form”. So this article tracks the car from its inception in the 1950s through to 1976.

The author of this history was Grant Mcmillan, who may have been on T&CC staff or an external contributor. Incidentally I note that T&CC require their written agreement for permission to reproduce “illustrations and letterpress” and were owned by IPC Business Press Ltd at that time.

I have been slowly working through several boxes of old motor magazines which have been stored in a loft above my garage for about 30 years and came across this story just before receiving your magazine to which I subscribe. Would you like me to photocopy this article, and if it is of interest to you, then I can either loan you the magazine (I want to keep these very early issues of T&CC) or get it copied professionally for you?

I am not a Ferrari owner, but have an Austin-healey 3000 MKIII (owned for 46 years), a Porsche 997 Carrera 4S, and a BMW Alpina B4 Bi- Turbo cabrio so cars are my general interest. Peter Nelligan We’ve have received a huge amount of great information about the Ferrari, Peter, and thank you for sharing. We’ d definitely like a photocopy of the T&CC article, please. Nice collection, by the way. AFW
