New Zealand Classic Car

EVENTS DIARY

-

Don’t miss the chance to get up close and enjoy the stunning array of vehicles at this year’s Autospectacular in Dunedin on Saturday, 8 September.

For this year’s event, the Otago family business of Everett Enterprises takes the naming honours, and the nominated charity to benefit from the event will be Heart Kids Otago. Heart Kids Otago supports over 330 members and provides emotional support to sufferers and families through face-toface meetings, home visits, phone calls, and counselling services.

Organized by the Otago Classic Motoring Club and Otago Falcon and Fairlane Car Club, committee spokesman Kevin Casey is asking motoring clubs of all descriptions to get behind the event and support it. More than 30 Otago businesses are contributing their support to the event.

“The theme for this year’s event is Summer Holiday. We encourage all clubs to use this theme if possible or have one of their own which will interest the public. There is a trophy for the best display,” he said.

A complimentary ticket for the driver of each vehicle displayed will be handed out on Friday evening. Held in the Edgar Centre on Portsmouth Drive, the indoor event always attracts a huge crowd and exhibitors from all over the lower South Island, with display winners judged in 11 categories.

Always popular is the door prize of a $1K Mag and Turbo Dunedin voucher for tyres.

New Zealand Classic Car has been asked to judge a range of categories again this year.

Nearly 300 vehicles of all types will be on display. Special feature marques this year will be Holden, celebrating 70 years, Buick, and Jaguar, and hot rods and motorcycles will also feature. Trade stands include those hard-to-get classic spares, models, and to help with restoring that classic in the shed. There will also be plenty of food available in the sit-down catering area, along with free entertainment for the children.

Doors will open at 9am with the event closing at 4pm. You should allow more than an hour to get around this amazing showcase of southern motoring.
