XK70 — CELEBRATING 70 YEARS OF XK JAGUAR MODELS

New Zealand Classic Car - - Feature -

It is 70 years since the gleaming power unit that was the first Jaguar XK engine produced went on display in the XK120 at Earls Court Motor Show. This milestone was marked in style by the Jaguar XK Club of England at its XK70 celebrations in June. A number of famous venues, such as the British Motor Museum and the Jaguar Collection at Gaydon, Warwickshire, were included as daily visits. Notable Jaguar drivers who attended the XK70 celebrations were Peter Sargent, Peter Sutcliffe, and Richard Attwood. Sadly, long-time Jaguar test driver Norman Dewis did not attend as, according to fellow engineer John Butterworth, who visits him regularly, Dewis was in very poor health. The weekend ended with a three-day tour through the Cotswolds, leaving from Chateau Impney Hotel.
