New Zealand Classic Car

AUCKLAND TRIUMPH CAR CLUB

-

The club celebrated its 30th year in April 2018 and continues to have a very active membership, with more than 90 members at present, and in excess of 100 vehicles from the greater Auckland and Waikato regions.

The members range from those who worked in British Leyland garages and the Triumph works themselves, through to younger people who have a love of classic cars and, of course, everyone in between. The vehicles are similarly variegated in their condition — from survivors to rolling restorations through to bare-metal, ground-up, bank-account-emptying, nut-and-bolt rebuilds. There are even Triumphs with alternative engines and kit cars based on Triumph chassis or using Triumph running gear — and everyone and every vehicle is made welcome.

The members are genuine enthusiasts of the marque and are more than happy to share experiences and lend a hand when necessary to diagnose an issue or sort out a problem. The club has some gurus who specialize in the different areas of the car and others who specialize in one particular model, thus advice is always quick to hand via the club’s Facebook page. There are also technical workshops that deal with the more technical aspects of maintaining a classic.

However, the Auckland Triumph Car Club (ATCC) is not only about the technical side of owning a Triumph; it’s about driving them too, and there is not a month that goes by without a run being held somewhere in the country.

There is also a regular (monthly) club night (see the ATCC website for details), as well as the odd impromptu run in the country for lunch after attending Caffeine and Classics at Smales Farm, Takapuna, on the last Sunday of the month. Events are also held during the year with affiliated clubs: the TR Register and Stag Car Owners Club.

As well as its Facebook group, the ATCC has a monthly newsletter, a quarterly magazine, and a website that, combined, allow our members to keep abreast of what is happening and when, and who to contact about what. The club is made up of a friendly, laid-back group of people with a common interest in what they see as an extraordinary motor car marque — the Triumph.
