EDITOR’S PICK
Suffolk is a specialist English builder of replica Jaguar SS100 cars. These cars have now been in production by Suffolk for more than 20 years. There are very few in New Zealand, and this one is for sale. Originally Jaguar made only 314 SS100S and this reproduction is as close to the original as one can get without owning one of those. This car was manufactured in 2001 in the UK. It is a replica of a circa-1938 Jaguar, but everything is much newer than that. The outside dimensions and body design are exact replicas of William Lyon’s groundbreaking design.
Suffolk has now surpassed the number of cars manufactured originally by Jaguar, and the new cars are updated to modern driving requirements.
The engine powering this car is a Jaguar 4.2-litre XJ6 unit. The gearbox, diff, disc brakes, and steering are also all from that lineage. The new chassis handles the equipment very well, and the result is a car that rides and drives superbly.
The interior is as classic as the exterior appearance would indicate: all leather or Wilton carpet in all the right places.
The owner purchased the car in England and has enjoyed driving it around Europe — with trips to Switzerland and the south of France — before it was imported to New Zealand.
The exacting and frustrating task of preparing the car for warranting and registration for use in New Zealand has been completed, with more than $10K’ worth of work completed and parts added here.
Suffolk is a well-respected manufacturer and has exported its cars to over 50 countries worldwide. The company carries a comprehensive stock of spares and so the car is not a one-off or orphan. This car comes with six new spare Blockley tyres as well.
