VW TYPE 1 ‘BEETLE’

PRODUCTION

• From 1938 to 2003, over 21 million VW Beetles were produced (21,529,564 in total); the final Type 1 came off the production line in Pueblo, Mexico, on 30 July 2003.

• In Germany, 15,444,858 Beetles were built, in five

factories.

• It was assembled in 14 other countries.

• Over three million (3,350,000) were produced in Brazil. • Of the total production, 330,251 were cabriolets. • Volkswagen produced a diesel Beetle — just two, actually — in 1951, fitted with Type 1 and Type 2 chassis. Performance was 0–100kph in 60 seconds!
