New Zealand Classic Car

AN ITALIAN BEAUTY

-

This excellent 1969 Alfa Romeo 1300 GT Junior has been professionally converted into a GTA ‘reimagined’. All the recent work has been completed by a professional classic car restorer who has extensive experience with Italian cars — Ferraris and Alfa Romeos, in particular

— and all these modifications have been certified.

The gorgeous body of these timeless Bertone coupés is well loved and admired, particularly the earlier ‘step-front’ design of this model; there’s not a bad line from any angle. This has been enhanced by the removal of the bumpers. Inspired by Alfa Romeo’s long and successful racing history, this car has the GTA front grilles and elegant door handles, carpets, and an upgraded suspension and engine.

The inspiration for this car was Alfaholics’ very impressive GTA-R (see alfaholics.com/gta-r/). It has Alfaholics’ suspension kit; a stainless-steel manifold and exhaust; and 14-inch Gta-style wheels, shod with Dunlop Direzza Z111 SL tyres.

The odometer shows 48,820 miles; while this may or may not be the true mileage, the two-litre engine was rebuilt less than 5000km ago at a cost around $9K. The rebuild included replacement of all necessary parts and installation of Colombo and Bariani stage-one camshafts. For the true enthusiast, an Alfa Romeo twin-spark engine could be made available.

This car has been restored for driving, and it is not a concours vehicle. It is regularly driven on the road in a spirited fashion, just as the manufacturer intended, and has been set up to delight the driver: it is light and nimble, with plenty of torquey power on tap and a rorty exhaust note to enjoy.
