REMEMBERING A CLASSIC EVENT
New Zealand Classic Car contributor and event organizer Trevor Stanley-joblin says: “For the past 20 years or more, I’ve had the idea in the back of my mind to run an event to celebrate 50 years since man first walked on the moon on 21 July 1969. Well, that day comes up soon and, by coincidence and my good luck, it falls on a Sunday.”
To this end, a special one-off event will be held in North Canterbury to celebrate Neil Armstrong’s momentous achievement. It is open to all vehicles registered before 1970 — cars, vans, utes, trucks, campers, caravans, motorcycles, etc.
Meet at Castle Park Cafe, State Highway 1, Leithfield (corner Ashworths Road /Ashworths Beach Road) from 10am. Registration and the route sheet will be available in the dining room of the cafe. You may display anything pre 1970 in the dining room: TVS, pedal cars, trikes, prams, and so on.
At 2pm approximately, vehicles will depart on a small tour through the surrounding countryside to a finish point where a free afternoon tea will be served in luxurious surroundings. Only $10 per vehicle. Bring your own lunch, but a coffee car will be in attendance at the start venue from 10am until the cruise departure time of about 2pm.
