READERS’ WRITES
Two stories on versions of early Mclarens have moved two of our readers in London to pick up the pen
OCH AY, A MCLARAE!
In June 2020, there was an article: The First Mclaren Car. What a — for crying out loud — shame that Graham Mccrae did not continue the development of the car into a commercially viable product. Let’s see, it could have been named the portmanteau ‘Mclarae’. Great magazine, and puts our lot over here to shame. More power to your elbow! Lloyd Hernsly

Graham was definitely a far better engineer/driver than a businessman, more’s the pity. — Ed.
A TRIBUTE TO THE M6GT
Really great article on the Mclaren M6GT. A few years back I suggested to Ron Dennis that the company, like Jaguar, Aston Martin, etc., might build a few ‘continuation’ M6GTS. The advantages being, of course, a sales and marketing tool, plus to educate the greater public that Mclaren road cars have a much longer history than that which is generally accepted.
Alas, there was no interest at all. Perhaps he, like Colin Chapman when it was suggested Lotus kept one example of their cars, made it very clear he was not interested in the past, only the future, or words to that effect. Let’s hope the current or future management take a different view.
Finally, what a tragedy for New Zealand to lose their one. Maybe, someday, somebody with deep pockets and deep patriotism will be able to announce its return. John Trist

It would be nice to think that owners of contemporary Mclarens have, at least, some idea on the history of what they’re driving. However, I suspect it’s not the case — a crying shame. — Ed.
