TOP OF THE SOUTH MOVES AGAIN
In case you think we haven’t got enough on the Targa in this issue, please note here what we hope is the final announcement about the dates for the ‘Top of the South’ two-day Targa in October.
It will now — almost definitely— be held on 15–16 October, with scrutineering on Friday, 14 October.
As event director Peter Martin explains: “Sorry, guys, but we are faced with yet another date change for the South Island Targa event due to a number of date changes by other events rescheduled due to the disruptions of Covid. The local Nelson Car Club have decided to run their round of the annual rally sprint series starting on Saturday, 28 October and the New Zealand Endurance [Championship] final has been brought forward from mid November to the same weekend.
“After much negotiation with Nelson Car Club, Tasman District Council, Mainland Series co-ordinators, and the Vintage Car Club, we can confirm the dates of 15-16 October 2022 for the Targa and VCC Time Trial. While we appreciate this may cause some frustration for those who have arranged their bookings, we hope that this has given you enough time to make the changes required.”
The event will involve a number of new initiatives, including the first day being a round of the new Mainland Rally Series as a stand-alone event.
The event was initially scheduled for Labour Weekend before being pushed back a week. It’s now settled on the weekend before Labour Weekend.
