DAW­SON PLANS TO PLEAD NOT GUILTY

THE hus­band of Syd­ney mother-of-two Lynette Daw­son, who’s been charged with her mur­der al­most 40 years ago, will spend at least a week be­hind bars be­fore ap­ply­ing for bail.

Chris Daw­son, 70, faced Syd­ney Cen­tral Lo­cal Court via video link yes­ter­day charged with the mur­der of his wife on Syd­ney’s north­ern beaches in early 1982. The court heard Daw­son in­tends to plead not guilty.

His bar­ris­ter, Greg Walsh, told the court the mat­ter was “quite big” and asked that a bail ap­pli­ca­tion be set down for De­cem­ber 14.

Daw­son, a for­mer pro­fes­sional rugby league player and teacher, ar­rived in Syd­ney yes­ter­day morn­ing after be­ing ex­tra­dited from the Gold Coast.

Fresh state­ments from at least two wit­nesses led to his ar­rest in Queens­land on Wed­nes­day morn­ing.
