TEE OFF AT OUR GREATEST COURSES
Noosa’s fairways are a haven for happy golfers and furry friends
Some years back the Inside Golf guide rated the Sunshine Coast as probably the favourite destination for winter Kiwi sightings as New Zealanders escaped from the winter cold.
But it’s just not New Zealand golf fanatics who will be flocking to Noosa’s fabulous fairway offerings and, with good autumn rain, our local courses are in tip-top shape.
Often at our premium courses, a round of golf doubles as a nature tour as the hunt for birdies is matched by marvelling at local kangaroos, koalas and all manner of bird life.
Here’s what Noosa has to offer in spades:
Cooroy Golf Club: Nestled on the southern entrance to Noosa’s premier hinterland town, this course offers a relaxed feel for a hit of golf to complete a holiday experience or social, corporate or charity golf day. The open-plan clubhouse looks out over the 1st fairway and 18th green and is an ideal place to unwind. Call 5447 6258.
Noosa Golf Club: Enjoy the tranquillity of the course’s natural bushland setting where friendly kangaroos roam freely. One of the reasons this picturesque championship course is popular with locals and visitors is because of its easy walking and generally forgiving layout. After playing 18, the perfect place for relaxing with friends is in the comfortable clubhouse with its fine bistro and adjoining deck with superb views. Call 5447 1910.
Noosa Par 3: This 27-hole public golf course offers a wide range of playing times seven days per week including social golf
days in a picturesque setting. This is considered by some to be the best short course in Australia, with small greens and undulating and wind-exposed fairways at the Hollet Rd setting in Noosa. Has full club facilities – call 5449 1666. Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort: This Graham Papworth-designed golf course is rated one of the best in Australia and likes to pose a challenge with 69 bunkers and water in play on 12 holes. And it has an abundance of wildlife for those who like to share the fairways with nature. The clubhouse facilities are a Noosa showpiece.
Call Noosa Springs on 5440 3333.
Noosa Valley Country Club: This spectacular course, described by Australian Golf Digest magazine as “a golfing gem”, is the first golf course in Australia to be accepted into the ABC’s Open Garden Program.
Located just off the Eumundi Noosa Rd, the course does not offer competition play, however conquering its holes holds its own rewards. Golf shop/restaurant: 5449 1411.
Peregian Golf Course: This is a newly reopened Peregian Golf Course with a driving range in the heart of Peregian Springs. The course is set amid tree-lined fairways with holes featuring lakes and waterways providing golfers a pleasant but testing outlook.
Located at Peregian Springs Dr, the licensed clubhouse is a local social drawcard. To book a round, call 5471 5400.
