JOONDALUP Health Campus staff painted an artwork depicting Joondalup lakelands under artist Justin Martin’s guidance.

The canvas was painted on Close the Gap Day in March to raise awareness about closing the gap in health and life expectancy outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians. Martin joined family and hospital staff at a Naidoc Week launch on Monday.

“The painting is a colourful description of Joondalup lakelands,” Mr Martin said.

Mr Martin explained that the painting highlighted the importance of the lake and all plant and animal species that live there.

“Surrounding the lake, there a number of different important plant and tree species, which Nyungar people used,” he said.

“There are also a range of different animals, which inhabit the lakelands, making several trails to the lakes.”
