JOHN and Beverley McIntyre of Wangaratta established Chateau Limousins in 1983 with the purchase of 11 cow families from the Streamville/ARH dispersals.

Through intensive embryo transfer and artificial insemination programs, utilising genetics from all over the globe, they have grown the herd to about 90 breeders with the majority being French Pure.

In 2010 they introduced Polled French Pure genetics with great success on their traditional horned cows.

In 1998 their son, Andrew, as a junior Limousin member, established his own herd “Montrose Limousins” focusing on breeding black Limousins from proven cow families from the Chateau herd as a base.

As the two herds were run and operated together, in 2014 it was decided to incorporate both studs under the Chateau banner.

With the joining of the two studs they now offer a variety of French Pure, Polled and Black Limousin cattle for their clients.

Over the past 35 years they have created the “Chateau” type of easy doing cattle with capacity and volume with a strong emphasis on docility, structure and fertility.

Chateau have shown at Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra Royal Shows and numerous country shows as well as the Limousin National Show & Sale – they have also supported many multi-vendor bull and female sales throughout Victoria and southern New South Wales with genetics selling to six Australian states, New Zealand, China and Indonesia.

After 31 years of private treaty and multi-vendor sales, 2015 saw the inaugural Chateau bull sale.

This year, John and Beverley - together with son Andrew and his wife Jenna -offer a variety of Polled, French Pure and Black bulls in their 4th on property sale at Boralma on March 19.
