War­low at Opera in the Alps

THE 2014 Opera in the Alps, to be held on Satur­day Jan­uary 18, will fea­ture Aus­tralia’s great­est stage per­former – An­thony War­low, to­gether with his ‘Phan­tom of the Opera’ and ‘An­nie’ co star – Julie Lea Good­win in An Evening with An­thony War­low.

An­thony has been star­ring in An­nie on Broad­way, New York for the past nine months and will fly from New York to Beech­worth to per­form ex­clu­sively at the 2014 Opera in the Alps event.

Opera in the Alps has gained such a rep­u­ta­tion over the past 18 years, that it is now is able to at­tract one of Aus­tralia’s great­est per­form­ers.

The evening will fea­ture An­thony and Julie per­form­ing hits from Phan­tom of the Opera, a lit­tle Mozart, as well as many An­thony War­low “favourites” backed by the Al­pha Sin­fo­nia Orches­tra con­ducted and com­pered by the pop­u­lar ABC an­nouncer, con­duc­tor pian­ist and racon­teur Guy Noble.

An­thony is also keen for the Opera Schol­ars Aus­tralia en­sem­ble to back some of his num­bers.

With an ex­pected crowd of four to five thou­sand, pa­trons will be able to wine and dine from 5.30pm at a num­ber of re­gional food, wine and cof­fee out­lets.

As well as the Pre­mium Din­ner pack­ages this year, there will be the op­tion of another din­ing ex­pe­ri­ence - the Ta­pas Mar­quee that in­cludes food, wine and pre­mium seats for the con­cert.

At the start of the evening, the three young Opera Schol­ars Aus­tralia fi­nal­ists will per­form their opera arias to com­pete for the prize of ‘Opera Scholar of the Year’.

Opera Schol­ars Aus­tralia, 26 ta­lented young singers from Vic­to­ria and NSW, spend a week in Beech­worth un­der­go­ing work­shops and mas­ter­classes.

They will per­form on stage at Opera in the Alps with An­thony War­low and also at their own Beech­worth con­cert – ‘Voices in the Twi­light’ in Christ Church, Beech­worth on Thurs­day, Jan­uary 16 at 5.30pm.

Fu­ture per­for­mances in­clude Opera in the Mar­ket in Mel­bourne and Opera in the Caves in Nara­coorte, SA.

Whilst in Beech­worth the Schol­ars also en­joy vis­it­ing the Beech­worth Hos­pi­tal to per­form for the aged care pa­tients.

The gates open at 5.30pm at Baar­mutha Park – sur­rounded by the beau­ti­ful Beech­worth Golf Course.
