Warlow at Opera in the Alps
THE 2014 Opera in the Alps, to be held on Saturday January 18, will feature Australia’s greatest stage performer – Anthony Warlow, together with his ‘Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Annie’ co star – Julie Lea Goodwin in An Evening with Anthony Warlow.
Anthony has been starring in Annie on Broadway, New York for the past nine months and will fly from New York to Beechworth to perform exclusively at the 2014 Opera in the Alps event.
Opera in the Alps has gained such a reputation over the past 18 years, that it is now is able to attract one of Australia’s greatest performers.
The evening will feature Anthony and Julie performing hits from Phantom of the Opera, a little Mozart, as well as many Anthony Warlow “favourites” backed by the Alpha Sinfonia Orchestra conducted and compered by the popular ABC announcer, conductor pianist and raconteur Guy Noble.
Anthony is also keen for the Opera Scholars Australia ensemble to back some of his numbers.
With an expected crowd of four to five thousand, patrons will be able to wine and dine from 5.30pm at a number of regional food, wine and coffee outlets.
As well as the Premium Dinner packages this year, there will be the option of another dining experience - the Tapas Marquee that includes food, wine and premium seats for the concert.
At the start of the evening, the three young Opera Scholars Australia finalists will perform their opera arias to compete for the prize of ‘Opera Scholar of the Year’.
Opera Scholars Australia, 26 talented young singers from Victoria and NSW, spend a week in Beechworth undergoing workshops and masterclasses.
They will perform on stage at Opera in the Alps with Anthony Warlow and also at their own Beechworth concert – ‘Voices in the Twilight’ in Christ Church, Beechworth on Thursday, January 16 at 5.30pm.
Future performances include Opera in the Market in Melbourne and Opera in the Caves in Naracoorte, SA.
Whilst in Beechworth the Scholars also enjoy visiting the Beechworth Hospital to perform for the aged care patients.
The gates open at 5.30pm at Baarmutha Park – surrounded by the beautiful Beechworth Golf Course.
