Celebrating our bush past

North East Tourist News - - Corryong -

THUNDERING hooves and stockwhips now not only wake the echos in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, down Corryong way, but also this year shattered the peace and quiet of Australia’s greatest equine expo at Equitana in Sydney in November.

Presenting a fast forward version the renowned Man From Snowy River “Legends” Challenge, 10 teams of two presented a fantastic “country meets city” version of the challenge.

Meanwhile back in the mountains, preparations continue to celebrate two very significant dates in 2014 - not only 100 years since the death of Jack Riley but also the 150th Birthday of Banjo Paterson, the event that brings these two names together is the Man From Snowy River Bush Festival.

From the dust busting action of the re-enactment of Banjo’s famous poem, the Rodeo, unique quality horsemanship or the side busting laughter at the Bush Poets, or bending your elbow at the bar and having a dance with your best mate to the country rock bands, there is plenty of fun to be had.

The Man From Snowy River Reenactment kicks off the festival in a cloud of dust and nail biting action, the rough terrain is indicative of the imagery represented in Banjo Paterson’s famous poem ‘The Man from Snowy River’.

When it comes to the test of outstanding, consistent all round horsemanship, the Man From Snowy River Challenge is second to none.

See the Working Cattle Dog Championships, where top working dog trainers do their best to show off the skills of these amazing cattle dogs.

At the Aussie Bush Idol Competition, you can tune your vocals and your guitar to win cash, guitars and the opportunity to perform at the Country Rock Concert on the Main Stage on Saturday night.

Friday night’s Open Rodeo is full of bone jarring excitement in the Bull and Bronc Riding Spectacular.

During the High Country Station Team Muster, a fast forward day on the farm, you get out of bed, roll the swag, light the fire, eat your breaky, muster the sheep, fencing, on your bike and deal with whatever comes up.

Or you can learn more about equine skills at the Equine Educational Arena, from horse dentistry to chiropractors, how to prep a challenge horse, pack saddles, saddle fitting and more.

The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival takes place from April 3-6 in Corryong.
