Thor and Churchill’s darkest hours, and more.
DVD: Action ( M) Taika Waititi finds himself in the director’s chair at Marvel Studios, no one says, “Go easy on the Kiwi humour, Tai”, and out pops Thor: Ragnarok – superheroism playing it for laughs. There’s a vaguely Norse, intergalactic plot; there’s Chris Hemsworth as a laidback Thor, Tom Hiddleston as naughty brother Loki, and Cate Blanchett as their very bad sister Hela, complete with the coolest emo eye makeup and retractable antlers. But it’s Waititi who almost steals the show as Korg, the affable, “straight outta Raukokore” rock monster. Thor is a hoot, if only to spot the Kiwi cameos and in-jokes. There’s even “Skux Life” graffiti scrawled on a wall in one of the fight scenes. Chur!
