DVD: Teen drama series ( RP18) The debate about whether it’s okay to talk about suicide, let alone use it as a central plot device in a TV show, reached fever pitch when this screened on Netflix last year. The series is rated RP18 (adult supervision required), but a recent survey found 43% of Kiwi teens had seen it – and most probably binge-watched alone in their bedrooms. One I spoke to found the grittier scenes disturbing but authentically handled, although she said a lack of character development beyond the central role of 17-yearold Hannah left her feeling a little emotionally detached. A second series is on its way, so if you’re a parent, here’s the chance to do some research of your own.
