November 19, 1988:
• Joe Chatfield attends a concert at the University of Auckland where “industrial/ experimental” bands Tinnitus and Ministry of Compulsory Joy are playing. She walks off alone towards Symonds St about midnight and is never seen again.
April 25, 1989:
• A reconstruction of her disappearance features on TVNZ’S Crimewatch programme, prompting a number of new sightings. However, they come to nothing and police think some people have confused Chatfield with her friends or the actor who played her.
• Police reopen the inquiry, assigning up to six detectives to the case. They interview Chatfield’s friends and acquaintances, and try to track down as many people as possible who were at the concert. As a result, they speak to a woman who discloses she was abducted and raped the same night.
• Police offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to Chatfield’s whereabouts. It is never claimed.
