Community and club members attended the Hedland Kart Club awards night last month in Port Hedland.

Over the years, many successful State-level racers who have been in State championships have called the Hedland Kart Club home.

The club relies solely on the support of club members and the wider community.

The night recognised the most outstanding competitors in all disciplines and the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort towards the sport.

Many juniors were recognised, with the Grey family showing their talent across all junior divisions.

Conner Grey was junior KA4 champion, Riley Grey was Cadet 9 champion and Tristen Grey was Cadet 12 champion. Scott Allen was named 2018 Club Champion for his hard work and devotion throughout the year.

Club president Shannon Brown was first in Tag125 combined, followed by Joel Kay.

Brown said the club was starting to build up strength in the town, and was seeing some consistency in members early in the year.

“Early in the year, we had really good numbers but other commitments can make a big drop and we want to have more people come down,” he said.

“In the new year, we will host a ‘have a try night’ for the growth of our club.”

Next year will be a huge milestone for the club, as members celebrate 50 years of establishment.
