Port Hedland residents may have to wait for their Saturday afternoon sausage sizzle a little longer, with Bunnings responding to a petition for a franchise to be built in the town.

Almost 1300 people have signed the petition on, which is campaigning to have a store in the town. However, an email received by one of the backers of the petition has revealed the organisation has put development of the store on hold due to “the slowdown of the State’s economy”.

Bunnings Group Limited national property development manager Andrew O’Neil said the organisation would “closely monitor the area” for the future.
