A look at the 2018 Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize
Lismore’s esteemed portrait prize has attracted artists from all over the country
More than 200 entries from every state and territory were received for this year’s $10,000 Hurford Hardwood Prize, with the winning entry coming from Sydney artist Nicole Kelly, for her portrait of Indonesian artist Jumaadi, called Jumaadi + Clouds + Rain. A total of 69 artists were selected as finalists in the biennial prize, 28 of them Northern Rivers residents. Works include paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, and video portraits. The Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize is on show at the Lismore Regional Gallery until September 23.
