SMILE, IT’S SPRING!
It’s scientifically proven that spring makes us happy. The extra daylight triggers the release of feel good chemical serotonin in the brain, and because we’re more active, our bodies enjoy a hit of endorphins, which relieves stress and boosts our moods. It really does put a spring in your step.
It’s a great time to start a new exercise program, and we’ve discovered one that’s ideal if you’re time-poor (see page 23).
Of course, spring means horse racing, and with the two biggest local racing events coming up – the Ballina Cup and Lismore Cup – our fashion editor Cassie Anderson has compiled a handy guide to get you Spring Carnival ready.
In spring, we’re naturally craving lighter, fresher food, and we have a fantastic recipe from Belinda Jeffery’s The Salad Book on page 9, along with an interview about her new cooking classes at Federal Hall.
This issue also features interviews with some other inspirational and talented local women, including transgender trailblazer Penny Clifford, and milliner Elizabeth Edwards along with social snaps, travel, entertainment and more. Enjoy!
