It’s sci­en­tif­i­cally proven that spring makes us happy. The ex­tra day­light trig­gers the re­lease of feel good chem­i­cal sero­tonin in the brain, and be­cause we’re more ac­tive, our bod­ies en­joy a hit of en­dor­phins, which re­lieves stress and boosts our moods. It re­ally does put a spring in your step.

It’s a great time to start a new ex­er­cise pro­gram, and we’ve dis­cov­ered one that’s ideal if you’re time-poor (see page 23).

Of course, spring means horse rac­ing, and with the two big­gest lo­cal rac­ing events com­ing up – the Bal­lina Cup and Lis­more Cup – our fash­ion ed­i­tor Cassie An­der­son has com­piled a handy guide to get you Spring Car­ni­val ready.

In spring, we’re nat­u­rally crav­ing lighter, fresher food, and we have a fan­tas­tic recipe from Belinda Jef­fery’s The Salad Book on page 9, along with an in­ter­view about her new cook­ing classes at Fed­eral Hall.
