Summer’s hottest make-up trends

With party season under way, Sue Marcon of Frangipani Beauty Spa Ballina, gives us the lowdown on the latest looks for summer 2018.

BLACK EYELINER

Sue says black eyeliner is big this summer. Line top and bottom lashes and wing it out on the inside and outside.

COLOURED MASCARA

Coloured mascara works well as a contrast to your natural eye colour. For green eyes use purple mascara, for brown eyes use blue, and for blue eyes go for brown. The key - especially for older women is not to overdo it. Use it only on your top lashes and consider just adding a subtle tint by applying it over your first coat of black mascara.

WET-LOOK EYES

To get the look, just blend on your favourite eyeshadow, then dab a layer of eye gloss across your lids.

METALLIC SHADOWS

Bright cream metallic eye shadows are also big this summer, says Sue. To balance out the look you can tap the same cream shadow over your lips and the apples of your cheeks, too.

LIPS

Shiny lips are making a comeback, according to Sue, which is good news for anyone over 40. As we age, the collagen in lips breaks down, which is why they tend to shrink and get dry, but some shine and gloss can give them the appearance of hydration and plumpness. Use a shiny stain finish lipstick or a lip pencil, matte lipstick and a dab of gloss.

NAILS

Bright blues, yellows, pinks, greens and reds are in, as are jelly nails. Inspired by the jelly sandals of the 90s, these can be clear, coloured with a translucent effect or even glittery.

ALL PEACHY

Peach is the new summer colour to replace rose gold, according to Sue, for nails, lips, cheeks and eyes.
