Expert insight Focusing points
Chris says… I simplify my approach to photography as much as possible. So I prefer to shoot fully manual – even manual focus. I love the control I have over my final shot. Some photographers prefer to shoot with autofocus, and that works just as well. You’ll hear the term ‘hyperfocal distance’ being thrown around, which is focusing a third of the way into the frame to ensure the depth of field keeps the foreground and background in focus. This only really applies to shots with wider apertures. With narrow apertures, such as f/16-22, as long as you hit focus on some part of the scene, you should be fine because the depth of field will take care of the rest.
