Phottix Taimi

The cheapest option here reflects that it’s also the only wired remote. This isn’t a deal-breaker though, as, like the Hähnel Captur, Taimi is a pre-programmable time-lapse remote, so once you’ve initiated a sequence, you can leave the device to do its thing. The wired link also keeps power consumption down, resulting in a huge 300-hour battery life from two AAAs. It’s also compact and very easy to set up. Nikon 10-pin and DC2-type cables are included to cater for pro and consumer DSLRs.

Phottix’s button and screen design is very similar to Hähnel’s, so don’t discard the manual in over exuberance, as it will be required to decipher the various time-lapse and shutter release options. As with the Captur, you can program sequences up to 100 hours long and repeat them, plus there’s a bulb mode and conventional remote release function with burst shooting capability. A display backlight and optional button beep feedback round things off nicely.

Pros

Compact; easiest remote to connect; huge battery life

Cons

Initially tricky to program; wired connection restricts remote release range

We say

Handy and works, but UK pricing is high for what it offers
