XSories Weye Feye

Here’s another Wi-Fi device that enables your smartphone, tablet, Mac or PC to control your Nikon. It’s slightly smaller than the CamRanger, but feels less premium. This impression continues with a temperamental and frustrating Wi-Fi connection procedure. But once linked, you get an 80-metre range and impressive 0.2-second minimum signal latency that eliminates any noticeable lag.

As well as controlling basic camera functions, Weye Feye also transmits Live View with touch focusing, plus there are time-lapse and video modes, but no HDR or focus-stacking options. You can at least view images stored on your memory card and upload them to the web. A rubberized case adds protection and houses straps to attach the device to a tripod leg. Inside, the rechargeable battery is good for 7-8 hours of shooting, but it isn’t replaceable.

There’s no denying you get a lot for your money here. However, dwindling support and limited compatibility with newer cameras dents its appeal.

Pros

Great price for a Wi-Fi remote; very compact

Cons

Clunky setup doesn’t inspire confidence, and neither does compatibility

We say

Works well if you’re patient and have an older Nikon
