I’m intrigued by the option of capturing HDR images in camera. Can you tell me which Nikon DSLRs have this facility?

Jason says... Nikon’s Active D-Lighting is superb for boosting dynamic range, revealing detail in bright highlights and dark shadows. But, in extreme lighting conditions, even Active D-Lighting will fail to give sufficient range.

The HDR (High Dynamic Range) shooting option enables you to take two successive shots with different exposure settings, the results of which are merged into a single HDR image. You can select the strength of the effect before shooting. There’s no HDR shooting mode in entry-level D3000-D3400 cameras, or in older Nikon DSLRs. However, it’s featured in recent cameras, including the D5100-D5600, D7100-D7500, D500, D600, D610, D750, D800-D850, Df, D4, D4s and D5.
