Our Apprentice says…

This was my favourite shot from the trip. We set out early in the morning before sunrise and headed along to Sligachan. A river runs through the small settlement there on Skye and the Black Cuillin mountains sit back behind it. Chris informed me there had been little rainfall in the week prior to my arrival so the river wasn’t as full as usual. But there were still some nice small waterfalls to capture in front of the mountains. I set a hard graduated neutral density filter on my 17-35mm f/2.8 lens and also used a polarizing filter to darken the sky and remove glare on the water. The Camulet tripod held the camera steady and I perched it on the craggy rocks that surrounded the river. I set f/16 for an increased depth of field, a 2 sec shutter speed to blur the water slightly and dropped my ISO to 50 in order to achieve that. I’m really happy with the colour in the sky and the detail in the clouds above.
