The N-Photo experts say…

Here’s what you need to get shots as good as Mihir’s

FREEZE THE FRAME

Use a high shutter speed, faster than 1/1000 sec in order to freeze rain in motion. The faster the shutter speed, the more clearly defined the rain droplets will be. Longer shutter speeds will result in a blurring that elongates the droplets, forming long, streaked lines.

Extend your reach

Use a teleconverter to get in close with your far-away subject. Only certain lenses are compatible with teleconverters, so check your manual before purchasing. Failing that, investing in a long lens negates the need for a teleconverter – but this option can become costly.

Single-point AF

Use Single-point autofocus for pin-point accuracy when shooting scenes with lots of conflicting points, like a bush or tall grass. Move the AF point around with your multi selector switch (or touchscreen with appropriate models) and focus on the eyes of the animal.

Depth of field

Getting a low angle when shooting your subject will mean a blurred foreground and background. This means your depth of field will fall off in front of and behind the subject. This emphasizes where you want the viewer to look in the photograph and makes for an intimate encounter.
