David comes up with a BELT AN D GIM BAL Technique
David has been fi ndi ng everyday ways to beat his Parkinson’s
To overcome the handling difficulties caused by Parkinson’s disease, David has found solutions by improvising everyday items and accessories for uses they weren’t initially designed for, such as his self-made ‘safari sling’… One thing I do, which I’d love to patent, I call it the ‘safari sling’. I take my belt off and, you know the grab handle on your car door inside? I just loop my canvas belt through that and, because long lenses have a tripod foot, I just hook that through and it works like a reverse gimbal head. I’d love to be able to patent it, but it’s just my belt! For things like slow pan of a leopard, which I was doing last week, it’s brilliant.
That’s a great piece of improvisation!
Well, I do think the best photographers are the best problem solvers. You don’t necessarily need the best equipment in the world, you’ve just got to get within the fear circle, and it’s solving those problems that gets the great images, not the fact that your camera can go up to ISO205,000. It’s your setup that does it.
