Polarize the sky

A polarizer will help to reduce reflections on water and improve overall colour contrast in photographs. But it also serves to saturate and darken skies, especially when they’re brilliantly blue, like when Nigel took this Hot Shot. Care should be taken when adjusting the polarizer filter, because any position away from 90 degrees to the sun will polarize one half of the frame more than the other. This effect is especially noticeable when shooting with wide-angle lenses.
