It’s a fact that male po­lar bears will kill the cubs fa­thered by an­other male to mate with the bear mother and en­sure their off­spring gets a chance. But this kind of be­hav­iour is very dif­fi­cult to ob­serve and has been rarely doc­u­mented. I en­coun­tered this scene on the east coast of Spits­ber­gen. The mother was still around, call­ing for the cub she had lost dur­ing the pre­vi­ous night…
