Prime quality

Because prime lenses only have one focal length, there are fewer separate lens elements to move around within the lens barrel, leading to better image quality. An inexpensive 50mm lens will usually control optical anomalies (such as chromatic aberration, distortion and vignetting) better than a zoom lens at the equivalent focal length, and will have greater sharpness too.
