Flat field op­tics

Most lenses will fo­cus slightly dif­fer­ently in dif­fer­ent ar­eas of the frame. So if the cen­tre of the im­age is sharp, the cor­ners may be out of fo­cus. Macro lenses are con­structed us­ing flat field op­tics, so they fo­cus evenly across the en­tire frame, for per­fectly fo­cused close-ups.
