Our Apprentice says…

-

Paul told me to think about my composition. He asked me to think of a drawn portrait to inform my framing. “You wouldn’t draw two heads on top of one another, so don’t do that if shooting couples or groups.” Picturing portraits like this made it easier to place Bryony in the frame. Paul also mentioned layering the scene, foreground to background. “Is there anything you want to place out of focus in the foreground? How about the trunk of the tree, and including a little background for context?” He was so right. I included a mass of negative space on the right, as the giant redwood tree had great texture, with a closer tree on the left of the frame.
