With its intuitive and redesigned interface, the SB-900 is a departure from Nikon’s previous top flashgun, the SB-800. The bounce and swivel head packs a motorized zoom range of 17-200mm (fullframe) and comes with auto-detection for DXS (APS-C format). Recycling speed is great, even after a full-power flash, without the need to add the SB-800’S optional fifth battery.

The control panel gives easy access to three illumination patterns, including centre-weighted, standard and ‘even’ lighting.

The flashgun is supplied complete with a range of accessories, including a mini-stand, diffusion dome and colour filters for matching the flashgun’s colour temp to tungsten or fluorescent ambient lighting. Advanced flash modes include a programmable ‘Repeating’ option, for firing multiple flashes within a single long exposure.

Key points Feature-packed

Pro-grade features include a powerful Gn 34 power rating, programmable repeat mode, long zoom range, automatic filter detection and thermal protection.

Control panel

The intuitive control panel is based on an illuminated LCD screen, four context-sensitive menu buttons, and a scroll wheel. Optical wireless master and slave modes are available.

Bounce, swivel and zoom

The head has a bounce range of -7 to 90 degrees, and 180 degrees of swivel to left and right. The 17-200mm zoom range is equivalent to 26-300mm on a DX.
