Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 F
£599/$799 www.samyanglensglobal.com
This fast telephoto prime is Samyang’s second autofocus lens for the Nikon F-mount. As is usual, the lens will be available under the Rokinon brand in North America. The Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 F is primarily designed for portraiture, with its wide maximum f/1.4 aperture and nine-bladed diaphragm, helping create the luscious bokeh blur that many photographers love.
The lens is made of nine optical elements in seven groups – and this includes one hybrid aspherical element. It has Ultra Multi Coating, to help to reduce ghosting and lens flare. There’s also extensive weather sealing to protect it from the elements when out in the field. The lens takes 77mm filters, measures 99x88mm, and weighs in at 480g. The minimum focusing distance is 0.9m and features what the company likes to describe as ‘very fast, accurate and quiet autofocus performance’ thanks to the use of a Dual type LSM Linear Supersonic Motor.
This full-frame lens is designed primarily for use on FX Nikon DSLRS, but can also be used on Dx-format APS-C models where the effective focal length becomes 127.5mm.
