Senegalese Wrestlers
ÁNGEL LÓPEZ SOTO
Wrestlers train on a beach in Dakar. Wrestling is the number one national sport in Senegal, and has also become a means of social ascendancy. It’s not just seen as a sport, it is also a slice of African life, tradition, and culture, in which there is a mix of animist and Muslim beliefs.

Ice Fishing Hut
SANDRA HERBER

The Difficult Path
LUCAS BARIOULET
17-year-old Marietta plays for the Mauritania women’s national football team. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is deeply conservative, and for many the idea of women taking part in such a sport is unpalatable. The path has not been easy, but being part of the team enables women of all backgrounds to play together, in a society that is still heavily divided. Camera: Nikon D750
